Traveling to a foreign country without knowing how much pocket money to bring can be a worrisome. Your travel lifestyle can affect your budget too. Are you a traveler who loves to sneak to party at night? A traveler who is afraid to eat local foods because you always have an upset stomach so you always end up eating at a fancy restaurant, a traveler who loves extreme activities like paragliding, a budget traveler who eats like a local and look for top places and activities without spending too much? If your answer is the latter, just keep on reading you never know you might get some tips.
First, disclosing my actual expenses during my last trip to Singapore won’t be of any help. One of the reasons why is because our accommodation was just for free and there were times our meal was free too, sponsored by our cousin who lives in Singapore. So, what I am going to share with you is my own recommendation based from my observation during my stay in Singapore.
Your food and transportation would always be your top two daily expenses whenever you travel to a foreign land.
Food Budget per day: SGD 30 or PHP 1,155 (SGD 1 = PHP 38.50)
Prices of food at hawk center or fast food that are budget friendly cost from SGD 4 - 10 or PHP 154 - 385. Let's get the maximum price of SGD 10 per meal and considering your hotel doesn't offer free breakfast, we get three meals per day, so that is SGD 10 x 3 meals = SGD 30.
Transportation Budget per day: SGD 10 or PHP 385. (SGD 1 = PHP 38.50)
A top-up of SGD 10 is more than enough for each day if you are considering subway as your main transport during your travel. However, during your first day you need to purchase an ez-link card or NETS flashplay that costs SGD 12 or PHP 462.
Extra Budget per day: SGD 10 or PHP 385. (SGD 1 = PHP 38.50)
Add an extra SGD 10 in your pocket. Because, there are actually many food stores in every subway station. It's hard just to passed by them. (If you know what I mean, for food lovers out there :D) And for Filipinos, we have this called "merienda". So, we can use this extra budget for snacks or bottled water or even for pasalubong like key chains or ref magnet for your collection.
So,that is a total of SGD 50 or PHP 1,925 a day! It’s up to you how much are you going to spend in a day based on your travel lifestyle. I think a budget of SGD 50 a day per person is enough if the places you are planning to visit doesn’t have entrance fee. But with that amount of money in your pocket a day you wouldn’t feel worried. If you plan to do shopping of course you need more money. And I recommend to always bring your credit or debit card whenever you travel. Remember that you are in a foreign country and having cards with you is very important for emergency purposes.
For airfare and hotel, these are actually booked few months earlier before your travel. You can always wait for promos from different airlines. I actually got mine and my husband’s airfare for free from our recent travel to Singapore! How did I get free flights will be up on my next blog! I remember in 2015, My hubby and I spent PHP 3,900 each for a roundtrip airfare from Cebu Pacific airline for our first visit to Singapore! Agoda, Expedia and Airbnb always offer good deals for hotels.
You can also book at KLOOK (not sponsored) in advance if you plan to visit some attractions with fees. But make sure you already have itinerary before booking your activities with KLOOK because you need to choose specific dates for some activities.
So that’s all for my blog today. I hope I did help you in planning your budget to Singapore!
